300 triumphs at the box office

Surprising everyone, 300 opened over the weekend to astounding ticket sales—the third largest ever for an R-rated film! Though the film, which is based on Frank Miller's graphic novel, is getting scathing reviews from many critics, clearly the masses want a visual adventure.

Wow, it was so awful... hilariously bad. Visually, I was a bit disappointed.

Aw come on, Anonymous. It was a mess. A sprawling, copper-tinged mess. Not to say I didn't have a great time laughing at it, of course. Visually I really felt like it could have gone further -- Sin City was such a departure from visual reality... 300 could have pushed it more. Better actors could have elevated it also. At any rate, I suppose if you're just going for the visuals, and want something slightly different, then it satisfies. But I still think it could have gone further.
